i don't know about a lot of you guys that read this blog, but The Great Gatsby is one of the best novels ever written. for those of you who haven't read it, it's written in the point of view of a background character named nick hallaway, and he's pretty much a witness to all these crazy things that happen in the life of jay gatsby and everyone else, but nick doesn't personally get involved himself. there's so little that goes on in his life, that the biggest things that happens to him happens to other people. the guy's so passive that the girl he hooked up with ended up getting engaged at the end of the 100 page book with some other guy. my bad, 200 pages. but i guess he can breathe easy knowing that all the stress, all the drama, is happening to other people. that, even despite his passiveness, he can breathe easy and wake up the next day in the same bed, with everything in the right place. that, when he asks for a light for his cigarette, he'll decline the white lighter his bro hands him to keep his bro's bad luck from rubbing off on him.
but, life's such a drag when you're always in the background
